Ferrari just pulled the wraps off two new models, the 296 Speciale and 296 Speciale A.
Let’s dive into the 6 must-know facts about this beast that's rewriting the rulebook.
1. The first V6 Special Series Ferrari

For the first time, Ferrari has selected a V6 engine to power a special series model designed for road use. The 2.9-litre 120° V6 hybrid unit, already acclaimed for its innovation and performance in the 296 GTB, is further enhanced here to deliver an even sharper and more exhilarating driving experience.
2. Impressive weight reduction

Compared to the 296 GTB, the 296 Speciale achieves an overall weight reduction of 12 kilograms. This was accomplished through the use of carbon-fibre for the doors, a Lexan rear screen, and lighter powertrain components.
3. Record-breaking aerodynamic efficiency

The 296 Speciale benefits from the highest levels of aerodynamic downforce ever achieved on a Ferrari road-going V6. This was made possible through a fixed rear spoiler, which alone contributes an additional 75 kg of downforce at 155 mph (250 kph), and a meticulously reworked underbody featuring optimised vortex generators.
4. Sharpened powertrain dynamics

The hybrid powertrain retains the same layout as the 296 GTB but has been specifically recalibrated for the 296 Speciale. Modifications to the engine, transmission, and hybrid system allow for a quicker throttle response, faster gear shifts, and a more resonant soundtrack. Every adjustment was made to heighten the driver’s connection to the car, reinforcing Ferrari’s commitment to providing an engaging, emotional driving experience.
5. Assetto Fiorano Package

Ferrari offers the 296 Speciale with an optional Assetto Fiorano Package, designed for those who demand the utmost performance on track. This includes Multimatic shock absorbers derived from GT racing, further carbon-fibre weight savings, and the availability of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2R tyres. These elements not only enhance handling and grip but also lower the car’s overall mass, underscoring Ferrari’s philosophy of performance through lightweight design.
6. Next-gen chassis control and braking systems

Debuting on the 296 Speciale is an evolved version of Ferrari’s 6w-CDS (six-way Chassis Dynamic Sensor) system. Paired with the newly introduced ABS EVO controller, this allows for greater precision in handling and braking, especially under high-load conditions typical of track driving. Together, they ensure the car remains predictably agile and responsive, giving drivers full confidence to exploit its capabilities.
