Pista di Fiorano
Pista di Fiorano is a test track specially built for Ferrari. It has a wide range of corner types to simulate as many tracks as possible. Its main purpose is to develop and test new cars.
Through the years, parts have been added like a chicane. This was built after Michael Schumacher’s input. In 1996, a renovated track was introduced which shortened the length by 24 metres (0,02 miles) making it 2,997 kilometres (1,86 miles). The biggest update: a fast corner to replace a sharp one at the end of the pit. In 2001 Ferrari installed an irrigation system to simulate wet tracks.
As crazy as the man was, Enzo built his house basically on the track. He would either sit in his house or sit next to the track to watch and hear the cars going down the track.
1960s
The run-up to building Ferrari’s own race track began in the 1960s. Enzo Ferrari took possession of some land near the Maranello based factory. When tracks like Autodromo di Modena and Autodromo Nazionale Monza couldn’t fulfil Ferrari’s needs anymore, they started
1972
“From this moment on, I don't want any Ferrari to tackle the track or address mass-production without passing the Fiorano test with flying colours.” That’s what Enzo Ferrari told the press when the track was revealed. The original track measured 8.4 metres wide and 3 kilometres long. The layout didn’t came out of nowhere: they integrated several characteristics of global race tracks.
1992
The track’s length increased to 3021 metres after a chicane was added.
1996
Ferrari planned a renovation which saw the track decreasing in length with 24 metres. One of the main updates was a faster corner to replace a sharp corner at the end of the straight.
2000
Innovation after innovation. To simulate wet driving conditions, an irrigation system was installed that collects and stores rainwater.
2004
When Ferrari was still allowed to test their Formula 1 cars on the track, Michael Schumacher set the fastest lap time to this date: 0.55.999.
2006
Ferrari revealed the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano at the Geneva Motor Show.
2019
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale becomes the fastest road car on Pista di Fiorano with a time of 1.19.00, 70 tens faster than the 2013 Ferrari LaFerrari.
